Virtual Open Campus Day (HIT)

At the entrance to an impressive foyer designed in FH style, Rector Professor Dr. Marcus Baumann is welcoming the visitors to this year's Open Campus Day (HIT, Hochschulinformationstag) of FH Aachen with a warm greeting. Looking out the windows, there's a good view of the Aachen Cathedral and the town hall. An exhibition hall in the city centre? No, this fifteenth Open Campus Day is different: this year, FH Aachen is not opening its doors on Eupener Straße in order to provide information about the opportunities after school graduation. Due to the corona pandemic, the university is showcasing its diverse degree programmes in a virtual fair environment.

Upon successful login, the Rector's opening address appears on the screens of prospective students: "We would like to welcome you to FH Aachen, a university of applied sciences. In the past, our Open Campus Day was always held in attendance on-site. This year, this will not be possible. However: we have prepared ourselves very well and we are confident that we can make you a wonderful offer and that you will be able to obtain comprehensive information. And so - let's go!"

The virtual outside area is located right in the middle of Aachen's city centre and comprises the various exhibition halls in which the degree programmes are being presented, divided into the subject areas of engineering, natural sciences, mathematics and computer science, architecture and design, health sciences as well as business studies and law. At each stand, avatars of professors, staff or students await prospective students so that they may get a first visual impression of their contact persons. What makes the fair environment so unique is that even the practical aspects of teaching at FH Aachen are not neglected in this digital format. Concise videos from the laboratories and workshops provide good insight into the practical side of things at FH Aachen.

Along with the information stands, prospective students will also find 35 lectures in animated lecture theatres - about the "zeroth semester", about teaching positions at vocational schools, or dual studies, to name but a few.

For all those who were unable to visit the digital fair on Saturday:
